Amazing oil painting depicting the USS Iowa (BB-61), a lead ship of its class commissioned in 1943. The artwork showcases the battleship cutting through high seas, with the hull number "61" clearly visible on the bow. Signe din the bottom right F. Papaluca.
Painting is not signed, believed to be from the 1950s
Good vintage condition with many visible signs of wear, paint loss and chipping with discoloration and satining (see all photos)

About the artist:

Very limited information online on the artist, believed to be the Son of the prolific Italian marine artist Luca Papaluca (1890–1934) who was also a painter. Following in his father’s footsteps, Francesco Papaluca specialized in maritime and historical seascapes, remaining active well into the 1960s.
